One piece of gum is one dose; if you smoke under 25 cigarettes a day, use the 2mg gum;
over 24 cigarettes a day, use the 4mg.
One piece every 1-2 hours for the first six weeks; one piece every 2-4 hours during weeks 7-9;
one piece every 4-8 hours during the final weeks 10-12.
Maximum dosage should not exceed 24 pieces per day.
Product Strengths:
The nicotine in the gum is either 2mg or 4mg in strength.
Manufacturer's Recommended Treatment Duration:
The manufacturer recommends treatment for 12 weeks.
Adverse Reactions:
Some gum users experience soreness in the gums, teeth and jaw. These symptoms usually
become more tolerable over time. As with all NRT's, check with your doctor if you take
prescription medicine for depression, asthma or thyroid conditions; your prescription
dose may need to be adjusted.
Cost:
The average retail price for nicotine gum is approximately $5/day for average usage
during the first six weeks of use.
